Today on Hobbit-Headcanons:
What would the company of Thorin Oakenshield enjoy about the Modern World?
One of my WIP transports the company to our world shortly before they're supposed to reach Rivendell, and into the apartment of my OFC.
So here is a list of things I think each character would enjoy about the Modern World:
Thorin: Google Maps, Siri (will totally argue with her like she's real), Shows like The Crown, Game of Thrones, but also Bridgerton, Democracy (yes you read that correctly), Rock music
Fili: Birth Control (can finally fuck around without risking the royal lineage), Superhero Movies (has an huuuhe crush on Black Widow), Tinder, Martial Arts, Feminism, Henley shirts to show of his muscles, bars & clubs
Kili : TikTok (LOVES cat videos, Top Content Creator about Archery, 'deep thoughts'/rambling, 'prank my uncle/brother with me', does EVERY challenge, accidental thirsttraps & flustered by the comments), Parkour, Man Buns & (Hipster-) Fashion, LGBTQ+ - Community , karaoke bars, team sports, the zoo
Bofur: modern music (especially pop songs with dirty lyrics), Tumblr (is no. 1 shit-poster), music festivals, arts&crafts blogs, Christopher's Streets Day
Bifur: Google Translate, Modern Medicine, Pain Medication, ASL, RomComs (trust me), helps out in an animal shelter, country music
Bombur: Cooking Shows (has his own Online Show), Kindergarten (he had so many children, the reprieve would be SO appreciated), international foodstuff to try
Dwalin: Guns, MMF, store-bought cookies, sport shows (AGRESSIVE fan for whatever team he randomly picks), Barbecues
Balin: Twitter (the political possibilities!!!), mental healthcare (he's sending the whole line of Durin he had no time for their shit), Spa Days, public schools, classical music
Oin: Modern Medicine (Duh), hearing aids, physiotherapy
Gloin: bitcoins, the stock market, Facebook (posts daily about Gimli)
Dori: hair tutorials, fashion shows, tracking devices (has totally microchipped a drunk Nori at some point)
Nori: hacking, movies with the lovable rogue as the MC (Pirates of the Carribbean, Deadpool etc.), spy movies (duh), the mafia (yes, he becomes a boss within weeks)
Ori: Wikipedia, public libraries, tutorials for EVERYTHING (knitting, cutting your own hair, how to talk to royalty, fancy war cries, you name it), fantasy novels, public schools
Bilbo: Food blogs, the "ignore call"-button, Instagram, university (will mayor in at least three subjects), museums
Gandalf: the Internet as a whole, email/ instant messaging, yard sales, modern weed, museums (has a knack for finding cursed items), adventure movies (after watching Indiana Jones he seriously debated obtaining a whip)

Fili X Reader - Restless
✿ Words: 2,688
✿ Themes: Kinda(?) Angst, Fluff
✿ Prompt: After the Battle of the Five Armies, you are tasked with keeping the line of Durin alive.
✿ Posted: 2/19/23
You had merged into Thorin’s company when they stumbled upon Beorn the skin-changer. You just happened to find Beorn a few weeks earlier as a traveling healer. After you helped with the injuries they had, it was decided by Gandalf that you would continue with them. You spent a good three months with Thorin and the company and had come to appreciate them all, and them you.
You loved watching Ori knit next to the fire. He was even sweet enough to teach you how to mend your own clothes and made you a pair of knit gloves that you carry with you at all times.
Bofur would tell the funniest stories when you and Bombur prepared dinner with him. You could always tell it was a really good story whenever Bifur would laugh and slap your back, saying words that you could understand.
Oin shared his healing techniques with you, and you to him. It was a wonderful learning experience that would come in handy later on. He also gifted you a small satchel to carry herbs in.
Gloin always has something to say about his beloved wife and son. You would always hear groans from the other members, but you loved listening to him rant and rave about his family. It was so cute to hear how much he loved them.
Thorin and Dwalin were both tough nuts to crack. Thorin seemed to welcome you in once you spat in the face of Thranduil in Mirkwood. You ended up buttering up Dwalin on accident. You had some cookies from another passing traveler that you helped and were eating a few when you noticed him eyeing down the small bag you were holding. You tied the top of the bag and tossed it to him. He seemed frazzled at first but grunted in appreciation.
Nori was an annoyance, but you still enjoyed him. You would always find him looking over something of yours that had miraculously ‘fallen’ out of your bag. He did try teaching you how to pick-pocket, but you weren’t very good at it.
You loved Dori and Balin. They were the ones that you would always go to for advice. They were the grandparents you never had. Dori especially seemed very mothering towards you, going as far as making sure you always were close enough to the fire.
Kili was a menace when it came to his teasing. There wasn’t a day that went by without some sort of joke that would make your cheeks heat up. You were glad you could take some of the attention from Bilbo though.
You loved going to Bilbo when you needed a civilized and calm chat. You both spoke of simpler times and gardens.
Fili… Oh, Fili was something special. Despite being like his brother, there was something else about him that just completed you. When he stepped in front of you to defend you from a spider, your heart fluttered. When he waded back into the water to pull you from your barrel, your stomach did flip-flops. When he grabbed your hand for comfort when his brother was sick, you nearly exploded.
When you reached Erebor, you ended up spending even more time with him as you both were on the same schedule looking for the Arkenstone. You hated to admit it, but you’d come to fall for the blonde dwarf, and spending every waking moment with him didn’t help. You only ever confessed your crush to Bilbo when he caught you gawking at Fili who just bathed in a stream. You never dared to tell Fili, too scared to ruin what you had now.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-
After the battle of the five armies, the line of Durin returned to you tremendously wounded. We’re talking twenty minutes from death kind of injuries.
You and Oin were working around the clock trying to repair the damage that was dealt to your newfound family. Your weak heart allowed tears to fall from your eyes as you worked on Thorin, worried that they all wouldn’t make it. A few hours later you managed to stop the bleeding and suture any lacerations or mutilations.
By the twenty-sixth hour, your mind was worn out as you sat on a table mixing a salve as Oin mixed up the decoction. It was silent in the room, the only sounds being the small clinks of glass and breathing.
You jumped when you heard the door squeak open, the head of Dori popped in and you nodded at him, continuing with your work. He took this as an okay to come in, his eyes looked over the three men laying on the beds.
“How are they?” He asked, not making eye contact.
You had a grim smile on your face as you mustered up some words, “Mostly stable.”
You watched out of the corner of your eye as Oin’s head lightly drop before lifting again, You slid off the table and placed down your finished salve. You walked to Oin and plucked the decoction out of his hands.
“I’m not done with that!” He grumbled, reaching up for it. You moved it out of reach and walked to Dori, placing your empty hand on his shoulder.
“Do me a favor and get him to bed.” You pleaded, eyes looking between his.
“I don’t need to sleep. There’s much work to do!” Oin tried to argue but you just shook your head.
“It’s no help to either of us if you faint from exhaustion,” You gave him a sympathetic look. “I can handle it, don’t worry.” He grumbled a bit but didn’t fight as Nori led him out of the room.
You spent hours delicately washing the blood off of the dwarves' bodies and coating their wounds in the salve. By the time you were done and pouring small amounts of the decoction in their mouths, you were half asleep.
Your head lightly raised when a knock sounded on the door. You hummed in response as you began to gather all of the bloody tools that needed to be cleaned. The door creaked open and a grunt met your ears. You peeked over your shoulder to look at the dwarf who entered, Dwalin and it looked like Bofur was right behind him.
There was a low whistle from Bofur before he spoke, “Lass, I mean this in the nicest way,” He started. “You look terrible.”
You scoffed as you dropped the metal tools into a large basin. “I’m well aware, thank you.” You slowly blinked before turning on the water, a soft sigh leaving your lips as the cold slightly shocked you awake. Wiping your hands off on a towel, you pushed the herbs to the side now.
“Are they-” Dwalin stopped mid-sentence, seeing a sorrowful look in his eyes. You’re sure he must be in as much pain as yourself, seeing his best friend laying there.
You moved to him placing a tired hand on his shoulder in reassurance. “All alive. I’ve been keeping a keen eye on them.” You lazily smiled. You walked over to Fili’s bedside, a downcast look as you brushed the hair off his face. You closed your eyes for a moment, taking in a deep breath.
“When’s the last time you’ve slept?” Bofur asked. You thought for a moment and shrugged as you stood there.
“Not that long ago. I’m alright.” You brushed him off, opening your eyes and continuing to work on organizing the herbs back to where they were originally.
You weren’t aware of the looks that Bofur and Dwalin shared behind your back but it wasn’t long before Dwalin stepped forward and grabbed your hips, heaving you over his shoulder. A gasp slipped out of your mouth. You went to fight him, but limply hanging there only made you realize how tired you were.
“Sleep well dove!” Bofur’s voice called to your and Dwalin’s retreating form.
-.-.-.-.-.-.- 2 Weeks Later -.-.-.-.-.-.-
You and Oin had been keeping Thorin, Fili, and Kili under constant supervision. This meant 12 hours of your awake hours you spent in that room treating them.
Today, you were walking towards the room. You had a heap of books you planned to read during your downtime, but you froze in place when you could hear a voice inside the door, then a familiar laugh.
You rushed forward, books clattering to the floor, slamming the door open and looking towards where Kili lay. He was awake!
“Oh, Kili!” You cried out, running to the side of his bed and dropping to your knees. You grabbed onto his hand, excited to see one of your friends awake.
“Did you think I would die that easy?” He teased in a weak voice. You laughed and shook your head.
“I’m so grateful for that.”
 -.-.-.-.-.-.- 1 Month Later -.-.-.-.-.-.-
You had been talking to Oin in the corner about making a balm for Kili to use on his own when you heard a low groan. You both turned towards Kili, expecting him to be whining about his pain again but he was staring at his uncle. You turned your gaze upon Thorin, watching his face scrunch up before his hand twitched. You quickly moved forward, bending over him and placing a hand on his shoulder.
“Thorin? Thorin can you hear me?” You asked before turning to Oin, “Can you hand me the macerate-” You were cut off by a painful hand around your arm, Thorin reeled forward screaming out a war cry.
Oin rushed to help you hold him down and attempted to calm him, but he acted as though he was still in the middle of battle. You received a good punch to the face, stumbling back before rushing forward again and holding him down with more ferocity. If it wasn’t for Kili, who stumbled into the hall and called out at the passing Dwalin, you’re sure you would have received much worse.
When Thorin finally calmed down and came to, he looked at you with a horrified expression.
“My deepest apologies, (Y/N). I thought you-” You smiled and placed a hand on his.
“Thorin, it’s alright. You’ve been through much more than I.” You reassured him with a small pat on his hand. “I’m just glad we all have you back, King under the mountain.”
-.-.-.-.-.-.- 2 Months Later -.-.-.-.-.-.-
Kili and Thorin were both mostly on their own at this point, only coming in every now and then for a tincture to help their pain.
But Fili… Fili was still sound asleep.
Every day you would talk to him as he lay in that bed. While you talked you would do things like clean him up, change his bandages, and even mix up some medicine just to prepare for the worst.
Today was draining. New dwarves were flooding into Erebor and in your free time, you were helping the others by showing the new Darrow their way around the mountain. Oin had a rough day himself and asked if you would be okay to cover his shift. You knew that nothing ever happened so you accepted.
You had just packaged up a few salves when a yawn hit you. You could probably get away with a small rest even though you knew you weren't supposed to. Your eyes glanced at the empty beds before they slowly drifted to Fili. Slowly shuffling to his bedside, you examined his features. He looked so comfortable and warm. You crawled up next to him, before carefully laying down. You lightly rested your head on his chest, ear pressing against the fabric covering his torso.
“Your heartbeat has always been so calming to me, Fee.” You hummed to yourself, letting your arm trace over a scar on his arm.
“I wish I told you how I felt before this happened. Hell, I wish I could tell you now.” You sighed, shutting your eyes and focusing on his heartbeat.
“No one is around to hear, I don’t see any harm…” You opened your eyes, moving up the bed towards his face. “I love you, Fili. From the moment I laid eyes on you I knew I did.” You placed a light kiss on his cheek.
“I would do anything just to see your smile again, to hear your laugh, to see your eyes sparkle in the sun.” You whispered before resting your head down on his chest again, slowly giving into the darkness of sleep.
You groggily blinked as you woke yourself up, unfurling yourself from Fili’s side. You grabbed onto Fili’s arm which now wrapped around your waist. You must have moved it while you rested.
“Oh Fili, your skin is so soft..” You murmured, bringing his hand up and placing a kiss on his palm.
You brought your head to rest back on his chest, “If you were awake, I would tell you how much I adored you…” you sighed. “How much I miss you…”
A few minutes passed as you laid on him, there was still so much you had to do before Oin came in, “I should probably stop talking and get to work.”
“Please keep talking, I love the sound of your voice.” A throaty voice crackled in your ear.
You let out a shrill scream as you flailed and fell off the bed with a slap against the cold stone ground. You stared up as you could hear the shifting of him on the bed.
“Fili?” You whispered as you shakily stood off the ground, his blue eyes were cracked weakly but a bright smile still played on his lips.
“Hello sweetling.” He cooed, arm feebly reaching out for you. Had it not been for your excitement of seeing him awake, you would have thought more about what he called you.
You swiftly crawled onto the bed next to him, sitting on your knees and cupping his cheeks. “Oh, Fili…” You whimpered, examining over him.”I didn’t think you were going to wake up…”
He used his hand against your back to gently direct you down until you were spooned to his side. “For a while, I dreamt of nothing. But then, it was you.” He sucked in a small breath, his hand coming down to rest on your cheek. “When I was about to give up, you came forward, urging me to return to you.”
You pressed into his hand but furrowed your eyebrows in confusion, “What are you saying?”
“I love you, (Y/N). I should have told you before I left you on the ramparts.” He whispered, “The last few days I listened to your words of adoration, and I knew you felt the same about me.” He confessed
Your breath hitched in your throat. He had heard you. He had heard it all! Your cheeks heated up as you opened your mouth to find something to say, but all that came out was a pathetic squeak.
“I want to court you.” Fili announced confidently, his smile unfaltering on his stunning face.
“Fili…” You muttered in shock, his thumb brushed away a tear that escaped your eyes.
“It doesn't have to be now,” His voice lowered to a desire-filled whisper. “But I cannot possibly stand another second knowing you are not mine.”
You shifted where you lay, choosing to instead move and hover over him. He breathed deeply as you looked over him, his free hand coming up to rest on your waist. Your stomach did backflips as you leaned down, gingerly just brushing your lips together. He quickly leaned up, locking your lips together. His lips were feathery as you both familiarized with each other. He tasted of the tincture you’d last given him, and something else that was just so uniquely him.
His hand gripped your side harder, pulling you down until you were rested on top of him. Your cheeks burned as you reached up to brush a hand against his bearded chin. You reluctantly pulled your lips apart, Fili leaned up to try and follow but you placed a hand on his chest to keep him there.
You lovingly sighed as you bent down, pressing your foreheads together. “I am yours, FIli. I always have been.”

What I would do with Each Member from Thorin and Co for a Day
Tumblr media
Hello dwarflings (and wandering travellers)! Today's post is influenced by a few imagines/oneshots I've come across. Enjoy :) (sorry for any spelling/grammar mistakes in advance)
Balin - Deep conversations with history of each other's worlds. I would love to hear the history of dwarves and personal stories from Balin, and I would love to tell him history of the ancient world and the golden age of piracy.
Dwalin - OMG I would be so shy to be in a room with him haha. Definitely make cookies and brownies with him, although most of the dough and batter would be eaten by him before it goes into the oven. A tough, tattooed warrior-dwarf baking cookies is something I can see.
Thorin - Take him to therapy, the guy needs it. Jks, but he does need a lot of therapy. I'm not too sure of him as he isn't the best to have a conversation with. I think, I would like to show him my gecko, and talk about reptiles, especially dragons (this will sound mean). I really like dragons, to his confusion, so it would be a nice icebreaker to 'bond' together with.
Oin - Honestly, Oin low-key scares me. But as he is a healer, I would love to learn natural medicine and herbology. Middle-aged peasants would want me BURNED!
Gloin - I think he will just be yapping and me listening; mostly talking about his wife and Gimli which I would find super sweet. I read somewhere that Gloin fought in a war when he was super young, like 14 year old in human age. So, again war stories til the 'morrow.
Bifur - Despite a language barrier, we would be able to communicate through art as cringy as it sounds. I would like to do a workshop with him with making wooden trinkets.
Bombur - Anything to do with food haha. Have a cooking day were we cook our favourite foods for each other and rate them. Same with desserts as well. He's got to try my family's death by chocolate pie.
Bofur - KARAOKE! I'd be singing abba songs while Bofur is playing some filthy flute riffs haha. And after go to one of those public play area, but for adults, and get absolutely smashed while trying to climb through the rope webs.
Dori - I think naturally being a bit of a fashionista would come hand in hand with it for him. If we're not going to go clothes shopping I would like to go fabric shopping with him, and design and make a dwarven outfit.
Nori - I read on a oneshot/imagine (I can remember where, I'm sorry) that Nori loves cats, and I can see that. We can go to a cat cafe and play with the cats. As Nori is a bit of a *bad boi* and steals from time to time, I may or may not pay him to steal a cat or two for me. No ones going to know.
Ori - definitely a drawing day - perhaps a sketch day out somewhere. I feel like taking him to a nature reserve or a conservation zoo would be nice as he would get to see animals that wouldn't exist in Middle-Earth. The others won't believe him at - like a giraffe??? That's got to be made up.
Fili - cheeky flirt 1.0. Either binge watching forged in fire, or chilling in the woods. Yes, I'm 21 years old, but if I see a good stick or two, I will duel someone in a sword fight. And I feel like Fili would willingly participate.
Kili - cheeky flirt 2.0. Movie marathon - every Shrek movie and me having to explain every fairy tale beforehand so he would get the references. Shrek AND pizza! Icould see Fili, Ori and Bofur could join as well.
Bilbo - eat, read and eat some more. I feel like Bilbo would love the hear what you are reading/ have read, and recommend books for you. I think it would be great to explain genres that he hasn't heard of in the shire. Just keep him away from the smut booktok, he won't handle it at all!
Gandalf - He's such an instigator for drama and lives for it, so I'd be scared to bring him out in public haha. I think he would defo love to hear about online drama like stuff in gorl world. So, I would bring out a massive white board, print of photos and cut string as if its a detective board and explain the history of gorl world while Gandalf drinks tea (for red wine with a fruity bouquet).
That's all for now, love you all!

Druidbury
—
The town of Druidbury was nestled in the Valley of Magic, the place where all lines of all energies converged above the Crossroad of the Realms. An idyllic little town built of brick and stone, blending traditional architecture and modern conveniences. Trams jangled along behind horse-drawn carriages, clocksmiths worked elbow-to-elbow with sculptors of the finest sundials, tailors and dressmakers offered fashions from countless eras.
It was a charming town that Kíli enjoyed visiting when he wasn’t bogged down by coursework.
Druidbury was almost exclusively occupied by Wizards, though a few magical creatures (and entities, like Brodrick the Shadow Wraith who haunted the local inn) had made their home there as well. Master Dwalin’s Sanctum was above the cobblers, and Mistress Minerva’s took up an entire block behind the community library.
Wizards who had married outside of Wizardry brought their families to live in Druidbury, and so there were schools to accommodate the magically impaired, jobs to support those who couldn’t perform spells, and all manner of inclusive event or club.
The ladies of the local knitting club were fond of Kíli, always gifting him sweaters and socks, or baking him cookies (that wouldn’t accidentally turn him into a snail).
“You asked me about Christmas the other day,” Fíli said, striding ahead of Kíli by a few paces. He was dressed finely in a three-piece brown suit under a thick tan cloak trimmed with fur. Unlike Kíli had seen previously (that is, in public), Fíli’s hair was loose around his shoulders and his eyes were bare of his glasses (those still misplaces in the chaos of his desk). It suited him, this casual appearance, and Kíli found himself somewhat more bashful whenever Fíli looked at him directly.
“Yes,” Kíli said, hurrying to keep up as they strode down the main avenue. “Well, I was more wondering if I’ve missed every Christmas since I got here. I’d imagine I have.”
Fíli stopped at the corner and turned to face Kíli, “Technically, you have so far. But, you could amend that if you decide to travel through the doors in the Cave of—”
“—Names.” Kíli finished for him, “Yes, I remember.” He looked disheartened. So, he had missed several Christmases, his family moving along without him. Had they even tried to get in touch? Or was there an unspoken rule that once a child is taken to the University, he’s erased from the family tree and never heard from again?
A finger hooked under his chin lifted his gaze to meet Fíli’s. “No need to be upset, Kíli. I’m sure your family loves you.”
“I suppose but…do they even know who I am anymore?”
Fíli moved his hand to cradle Kíli’s cheek briefly before letting go. “Of course!” He said cheerfully, “The University sends families letters whenever its learners achieve something.”
Kíli’s stomach dropped, “But…I haven’t achieved anything!” He really hadn’t, apart from a soap-bubble shield and an Apprenticeship with Fíli his gap year between The School of Tutelage and The Academy of Information. And that hardly counted; Kíli had made more mistakes than he’d made strides toward bettering his skills as a Wizard.
“That’s not true.” Fíli told him, taking Kíli by the shoulders and leading him across the street and down the next block. “You’ve achieved far more than you give yourself credit for, Kíli. Trust me.”
Kíli did trust Fíli, but it sometimes felt as though Fíli regarded him through rose-tinted glasses and not as who Kíli was. Which was a paltry Wizard who’d fumbled through the last leg of his lessons under the School of Tutelage trying to earn a vocation as—Kíli sighed—a Harbinger.
(He had mastered herding crows into lines on tree branches, at least. Not that that required much strain on a learner’s Flare.)
“You asked me about Christmas,” Fíli said, smiling and tipping his head to those they passed as they walked. “And today, I’m going to show you how we celebrate it here.”
Bug-eyed, Kíli blurted, “I didn’t know we celebrated it at all!”
“What do you think the Yule Feast is all about?” Fíli asked, a twinkle in his eye.
“It lasts twelve days, sir, that’s hardly Christmas.”
“Maybe not as you celebrated it back home.”
“And there are no presents.” Kíli added, giving Fíli a pointed look, as if that was entirely what Christmas was about.
“Not true!” Fíli countered, taking Kíli gently by the arm, “Which is why I’ve brought you here.”
Here being a dimly lit shop squished between a cobbler’s and an apothecary. The Cabinet of Curiosities the sign above the shop read in swirly gold lettering. Unlike the prettily decorated shops along the street, this one was dark and somewhat autumnal. The storefront was painted black and had gold runes carved into the wood. Thousands of candles illuminated the interior from gothic chandeliers and tarnished candelabras.
“I don’t understand.” Kíli said, frowning through the glass door. “What does this have to do with Christmas presents?” A thought hit him, “Wait, are we buying presents…here?”
Even from outside, he could see the strange and unusual objects littering the shelves within. Twisty branches embedded with jewels and tiny skeletons in glass belljars. Books and old maps and what looked like a well-preserved mermaid’s tail without the rest of the mermaid attached.
“No, Kee, we’re not buying presents.”
That was a relief. Until now, Kíli hadn’t had to consider what currency was used in Druidbury, but he knew he didn’t have a cent of it to his name. Whenever he and his friends visited the local, he assumed someone else always took care of the tab as he’d never been asked for payment.
            “So…”
“Come on.” Fíli encouraged Kíli through the door with a gentle push to his lower back, the weight of Fíli’s hand making Kíli blush.
The shop smelt of leather and dust and was a comfortable temperature compared to the wintery outdoors. A fire roared in the massive fireplace on the farthest wall. There were rows upon rows of floor-to-ceiling shelves, some with long tables between them, all filled to capacity with gruesome and weird trinkets.
An old, webby gramophone crackled to life on the service counter, telling them, “Back room!” as they wandered further into the shop.
FĂli obliged the voice, leading KĂli to the back of the shop and behind a heavy curtain. He held it open for KĂli politely, jerking his chin in the direction of a monstrous worktable cluttered with instruments and materials of all sorts.
KĂli eyed it warily, unsure what he was supposed to look for.
“Although the Crossroads and, therefore, the University, exist outside of time, we are still effected by it.” Fíli said, coming to stand beside Kíli. He spoke as he removed his cloak and hung it on a stand in one corner. “And some of us even participate in it.”
Just then a large man kicked open the splintered wooden backdoor, pushed inside with a gust of wind. He was as tall as he was wide with a jolly face and snow-white beard, round cheeks, and a bulbous nose. In his arms he carried a box bursting with scraps of fabric and small pieces of weathered wood.
“Hullo Fíli,” He boomed merrily, clearly happy to see Fíli there. He set the box down and began to empty its contents on the table. “Glad you could make it.”
“Wouldn’t miss it for the world.” Fíli said. He’d removed his suit jacket and was rolling up the sleeves of his light-coloured shirt when the man greeted him. Now, he put a hand on Kíli’s shoulder and introduced him, “This is my Apprentice—”
            “Former,” Kíli corrected.
“Not quite, lad.” Fíli chuckled and then resumed, “This is my Apprentice, Kíli. He’ll be helping us today.”
KĂli looked between the large man and FĂli, confused.
            “Kíli, this is Nícolae.”
Kíli bobbed his head cordially, “Pleasure to meet you, Master Nícolae.”
“Please, boy,” Nícolae smiled, “It’s just Nícolae.”
“Good luck with that.” Fíli teased, “Took ages to get him to stop calling me Master.”
“Hey!” Kíli pouted; he hated being spoken of as if he wasn’t there. Even if what Fíli said was true. “It’s wonderful to meet you, Nícolae.” He said out of spite, though it felt strange not to use the title he’d been taught to use whenever he met an elder Wizard.
Nícolae smiled at Kíli’s deliberate cheek. “Shall we get to work, then?” He asked, tilting his head toward the table. More specifically, the items he’d deposited on it.
“Absolutely,” Fíli said, clapping his hands, “Where would you have us start?”
Nícolae explained how things were to be done: no magic, no miracles, no mystifying feats. Just simple toolwork and some elbow grease. Kíli didn’t narrowed his eyes when he was given his instructions and encouraged into a tall tinker’s chair at one end of the table.
            “No magic?” He asked.
Fíli shook his head, a secretive smile arcing his lips. “Can’t have anyone with an undetected Flare interacting with it.”
“Undetected…” Kíli peered at Nícolae, who took his seat on the other end of the table, the chair groaning under his weight. There was something peculiarly familiar about Nícolae that Kíli couldn’t quite put his finger on. “What exactly am I supposed to make?”
“Just follow the illustrations there, boyo.” Nícolae said, pointing at a small pile of illustrated parchments. They were step-by-step instructions of how to put together a—
Kíli frowned, “Dolls?” He glanced at Fíli, “We’re making dolls?”
“We’re making everything on our lists.” Fíli said, patting his own little pile of parchments. “There isn’t much left.” This, he said to Nícolae.
“The others have been very helpful this season.” Nícolae grabbed a thick piece of wood and a carving knife and started scraping away the bark. “Master Pallando and his brother have been by every week since the end of summer.”
Pallando. He was the Wizard who’d escorted Kíli to the University when he was a boy. Kíli hadn’t heard from or seen anything more of him since. It was interesting to discover that Master Pallando was still around.
“How did they fare without use of their magic?” Fíli wondered with an undercurrent of animosity that Kíli didn’t understand.
“Horribly.” Nícolae said, “but they got the hang of it quickly enough.”
They worked in silence for some time, until Kíli’s back began to ache, and his bum lost all feeling. He’d made approximately seven dolls, two wooden cars, nine stuffed rabbits, and six wooden soldiers.
It was as he was finishing the paint on the sixth wooden soldier that he realized, “We’re making toys.”
Fíli tried to hide his amusement and failed. “Spot on, Kee.”
“No, that’s not—” He glared half-heartedly at Fíli, “Why are we making toys?”
            “Because you asked about Christmas.”
Kíli stared at Fíli for a moment, gathering his thoughts, and then looked at Nícolae, who was hunched over a beautifully crafted dollhouse. White beard, jolly demeanor…He couldn’t believe he hadn’t seen it sooner.
            “My word…You’re Santa!”
NĂcolae cast his gaze to FĂli. They shared fond looks before both turning to KĂli.
“Some call me that, yes.” Nícolae acknowledged. “But I prefer Nícolae.”
Kíli didn’t hear him, too busy filling the air with questions, “Santa’s a Wizard?! How long has this been going on? Do you really deliver all these presents yourself? Don’t you have a village of elves to help you make toys?”
“No elves, I’m afraid. Just the charity of fellow Wizards such as yourself.” Nícolae said with a wink. “As for how long, I can’t be sure.”
            “Fíli,” Kíli implored, “He’s Santa.”
“I’m well aware, Kíli.” Fíli said, not looking up from his work on a gorgeous tea set. His tongue poked out the corner of his mouth while he concentrated on his intricate brushwork. “Which is why I brought you with me.”
            “To meet Santa.”
“To meet Santa.” Fíli echoed, finally meeting Kíli’s gaze. His eyes sparkled warmly, an expression of adoration adorning his features. “I could only answer your questions about time, and even then, only so much. But Nícolae has been a member of the University since its earliest days.”
“Why, you’re positively ancient!” Kíli blurted before he could stop himself. He slapped a hand over his mouth, his apologize muffled but sincere, “Sorry…”
Nícolae threw his head back and laughed, a rich chorus of sound. He flapped a hand in dismissal, wiped a tear from his eye and said, “I can’t deny that it’s true.” When he calmed, he looped his thumbs in his belt and said, “Now, you have questions, I have answers, and we both have a lot more to do. Why don’t you ask me while we work, hm?”
KĂli checked with FĂli that it was alright, knowing that he had the tendency to ask more questions than most were willing to answer. FĂli gave no indication that KĂli should restrain himself, so KĂli started with the most pressing thing on his mind:
“Do you really eat all those cookies yourself?”
FĂli bit his smile, willing himself not to laugh.
This was either the best or the worst idea he’d ever had.

Add to this TH characters:
Bilbo: Food blogs , the "ignore call" button
Thorin: Siri (will totally argue with her like she's real), Google maps
Dwalin: guns, store-bought cookies
Balin: twitter, mental healthcare
Gloin: bitcoins, Facebook (he daily posts about Gimli)
Oin: modern medicine, hearing aids
Dori: hair tutorials, tracking devices (totally microchipped a drunk Nori)
Nori: hacking, movies with lovable rogues as the MC (Pirates of the Caribbean etc)
Ori: Wikipedia, tutorials for EVERYTHING (knitting, cutting his own hair, talking to royalty, fancy war cries, you name it)
Bifur: Google translate, modern surgery & pain meds
Bombur: cooking shows (has his own), kindergarten (he has so many bairns, someone else looking after them for half a day is bliss)
Bofur: modern music (mostly pop songs with dirty lyrics), Tumblr (is no.1 shitposter)
Fili: birth control (can finally fuck around without risking the royal lineage), superhero movies (LOVES black widow)
Kili: tiktok (watches cat videos & creates LOTS of content about archery, 'deep' thoughts, his woes, 'prank my brother/uncle with me' ; gets SO much thirst from women that he finally no longer feels ugly cus of dwarven beauty ideals), parkour
LOTR characters and things from our modern era they'd like (my humble opinion anyway):
Frodo: Duolingo, headphones/earbuds
Sam: refrigerators, Pinterest (would have multiple organized boards for gardening tips and recipes)
Merry: YouTube, thrift stores
Pippin: video games, theme parks (terrified of roller coasters but probably loves going on them anyway)
Aragorn: Google maps, FaceTime (always calling Arwen late at night when everyone else is sleeping)
Legolas: hoverboards, cameras/photography
Gimli: ATV's, drones
Boromir: football (American), laser tag (gets very intensely into the game, but if anyone actually manages to get hurt, he is swift to make sure they're okay)
Gandalf: the Internet, texting/instant messaging, yard sales (has an eye for valuable things everyone else thought was junk; probably would pick up a palantir or something from a seller who thought it was a worthless item with no function)

Feel free to add your ideas!

“Amad! Amad! You’ll never believe what happened to Kíli today!” Fíli announced loudly, bursting into the kitchen. Behind him followed Dwalin, who was sniggering in his beard, and she could vaguely hear a gloopy sound just entering their small house. Turning around to look, Dís stared.

Sweet treats
Tumblr media
This one is for all the Dwalin, Dwori, Dwhorin and other Dwalin-pairing enjoyers.
He's a dear little old grump haha...
Words: 693
Warnings: None
Tumblr media
The door banging against the wall made you jump, and, in an act of pure instinct, you flung whatever was in your hands in that moment at the surmised intruder.
“Hmmm, thanks,” Dwalin grumbled, holding aloft a sieve as if it was exactly what he had been looking for all his life. “What a nice sight to be coming home to!”
A hand pressed against your heaving chest covered in flour and spices, you managed to conjure up a wavering smile of welcome; you had not expected him to be home quite so soon and hence you had been greatly startled by his unannounced arrival.
“’Weather didn’t hold,” he explained while shrugging out of his coat and toeing off his heavy boots, “we made haste.”
Your eyes swept over the chaos in your kitchen quickly; you had thought that you’d have at least another evening and night before your beloved returned from his caravan-guarding duties. Consequently, you were considerably dismayed to be caught not only unawares but also in the middle of your preparations of what you had intended to be a surprise for the gruff warrior.
“What’s that?” he ambled over eagerly, letting the sieve clatter onto the table carelessly to wrap his huge hands around your hips and pull you in for a passionate kiss that conveyed how much he had missed you during your time apart much better than any of his rumbling words ever could have.
“It was meant as a ‘Welcome home’ surprise,” you gasped into his mouth when his hold on you didn’t subside as the seconds ticked by.
It was common knowledge – even though nobody dared confront him on the matter – that your beloved Dwalin had a major sweet tooth; in your attempts to keep your mind off the terrible absence of his bulky body in your house and bed, you had spent many an afternoon out of doors, picking fruit and trading spices with the merchants passing through the settlement.
After several meticulously documented trial runs, you thought that you had finally perfected the recipe for the spiced pear cookies that – there was no doubt about that – your taciturn lover would devour eagerly.
Words were often difficult between the two of you as he was at times very reserved and this made you nervous to the point where you fumbled to find the right thing to say, squirming under his unyielding and unwavering gaze.
Hence why you liked doing things for him that showed him just how much you cared for him.
A rough thumb scraped along the corner of your mouth, and you looked up just in time to see him put it into his own, his brows furrowed in concentration.
“Is that jam? Did ye make that?” he asked, his eyes alight with pleasure and curiosity as they scanned the room in search of the source of the delicious taste he had stolen from your very lips.
“There’s none left,” you chuckled, “it’s all in the dough already.”
“Dough?” he echoed slowly. His gaze returned to you, questing, and he gave you a little shake. “Beloved! Are you withholding sweets from me?”
Unable to resist, you broke into resounding laughter at the sight of his evident distress; immediately, he started to list the bad weather, the blistering cold, his sore feet, and his undying love for you as the incontrovertible reasons why you had to hand over whatever sugary treats you were so heartlessly hiding from him.
“If you had not interrupted me,” you chided, “those would already sit in the oven.”
Instantly, he stepped back, slipping ever so slightly in his woollen socks on the polished floor, and lifted his hands defensively.
“Good,” you praised, “go grab yourself a tankard of ale, there should be a cask in the cellar, and in a little while, you may have a cookie or two, fresh from the oven.”
As you watched him stomp down the stairs, you already knew that he’d eat the whole batch, burn the roof of his mouth in the process, and then carry you to bed to make you feel just how much he had yearned for you as well.
Tumblr media
In hopes that you've also liked this one, I remain your most devoted servant and friend.
@fellowshipofthefics Number 6 (?) Losing count here haha...

HC´s - My Christmas Love (Hobbit Christmas AU)
My dear @i-did-not-mean-to 💖 this is for you. Thank you so much for asking me to write for you this Christmas special 🎄 I hope you will like it.
You asked for: How would the company (and whoever you like writing) prepare to tell their crush they're in love with them...on Christmas - and you shall have it 💕
Characters: Ori, Kili, Fili, Thorin, Dwalin
Tumblr media
Kili
Kili loves you with all his heart. He flirts with you, winks at you, touches you, and seeks your closeness. Will you return his feelings? There is only one way to find out and Kili knows that one day he will have to confess his love to you. Well, it's not like he's hiding it from you. He just hasn't said it yet, but his gestures and his eyes tell you so much.
Kili never misses an opportunity to be close to you. Through his playful nature, you both get to spend time outside. There is snow everywhere and of course, you get into a snowball fight. It's cold and wet, but you have an incredible amount of fun. You laugh a lot, Kili's eyes shining with love for you.
You win the battle, but the dwarf wants his revenge. "Oh, no! Just you wait!" He catches you and you both stumble, causing you to fall in the snow. And that one moment is so intense that both your hearts beat like mad. Kili brushes a few wet strands of hair from your rosy cheeks as he looks at you, smiling at you.
It's Christmas Eve when Kili knocks on your door and you invite him in. He acts differently than usual. More serious, yet you feel an incredibly beautiful sensation at the sight of him. "I have a present for you." As you open the gift, you find a pair of long stockings inside. They are very noble. White and they feel like silk. Or is it cashmere? Fili hopes you like his gift. "Will they fit you?" You don't know. "Do you want me to try them on you?" And with that, he kneels in front of you while you sit on the bed. Carefully and slowly, he pulls the white stocking over your leg, looking up at you as he does so. In his eyes, you don't recognize the playful dwarf this time, no. This time you see the desire of a prince who adores you.
"I want to tell you something" he whispers as he fixes the stocking to your thigh with a red ribbon. "Then say it, Kili..." He approaches you, his lips lightly touching yours. His warm hands gently touch your thighs. "My love... You stole my heart."
And with a tender kiss, he seals his confession of love.
Tumblr media
Ori
Ori is nervous as fuck. He is so nervous and excited, he doesn't know if he should confess his love to you or not. But he longs for you so much that it hurts. He loves to see you laugh and he hates it when you are sad. Ori often imagines him holding you when you cry. But for fear of being rejected, he has never dared to do so.
But after a long talk with his older brother Dori, he has a little more courage. Dori suggested that he should craft something for you because Christmas is coming soon! And this is the best opportunity to express his feelings for you without words.
You and Ori create a gingerbread house. Of course, you snack on the gingerbread, since it's too delicious but in the end, you still manage to build a pretty little house. With lots of chocolate and whatever your heart desires.
You also bake cookies together. Ori has a lot of fun decorating them. He opens up more and more, spends a lot of time with you and you two quickly become inseparable. With Ori, everything is so much better, so exciting! Ori is a sweetheart. He always listens to you and a smile from him is enough to make you happy.
He has a very special gift for you. And this gift he would like to hand over to you at Christmas. It's the 25th of December when Ori takes your hand and leads you to the fireplace. The other dwarves know of Ori's love for you and they are nervous too. You are standing under the mistletoe, looking at each other, and Ori is very nervous. Yet he is sure of his love for you. You are his one.
"This is for you," he says, his cheeks all red as he presses the little bear into your hands. You look down and realize Ori has knitted a bear. A cute, brown bear. Instantly, you have to smile. "If for once I shouldn't be there to protect you, he will." Because this bear is supposed to bring you happiness. And it's supposed to protect you from evil looks and bad intentions.
He is so nervous during his confession of love, his hands and also his voice trembles a bit
"A-Amrâlime..." Ori takes all his courage as he confesses his love for you. "I-I love you, Y/N! And I swear to protect and honor you." His words are sweet and honest. But his kiss is like delicious honey.
Tumblr media
Fili
Fili will go with you to a small cottage in the mountains for a few days;  at least that's what he has planned. There he will have his peace and the best thing is, Fili will have you to himself.
He prepares everything for a nice weekend. He has already promised you a surprise and of course, you are curious. Accordingly, you let Fili take you to the mountains, but you have no idea how much he loves you and that he has planned to confess it to you on Christmas Eve.
The cottage is cozy and warm. A large, decorated tree stands in the living room. The scent of cinnamon, tangerines, and marzipan fills the air. Both of you are sitting in front of the fire, warming up, and for Fili, it's the perfect opportunity to snuggle with you under a blanket. Of course, you notice that he seeks your closeness more than usual.
You snuggle up to him, enjoying the silence and the crackling of the fire around you. Suddenly Fili takes your hand and looks deep into your eyes. You are so close to him and he enjoys every second. If he could stop time, he would do it immediately. "Amrâlime...". Fili puts a necklace in your hand and when you look down, you realize that the pendant is made of moonstone. White moonstone.
His face is very close to yours, his warm breath brushes your lips.  "Let me love you. You've stolen my heart."
"Turn around, please." Because that way he can put the necklace on you. He takes his time doing so, enjoying the sight of your bare neck. Gentle as he is, he caresses your skin and breathes a kiss on your neck. "Merry Christmas, Y/N."
Now it's up to you how this romantic evening with Fili will end...

Thorin
Thorin has decided to prepare dinner for you. He must admit that he is a little nervous. He, king under the mountain, is actually nervous around you. He asked the others for advice and eventually the idea to prepare a nice dinner was born. Unfortunately, Thorin is not very talented in the kitchen, but he let Bifur and Bombur show him a few tricks.
He had time to practice until Christmas Eve, and he had done so in secret.
So Thorin had decided to cook what you like most. White sausages mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. Hell, he doesn't even know if it will taste good.
Dinner will be on Christmas Eve. Just you and him, Thorin made sure of that. The fact that you don't know about it makes it even more exciting for him. How will you react when you realize you'll be alone with him?
You are very surprised when you enter the dining room. Candles have been set on the table and the smell of delicious food fills your nostrils. But the table has only been set for two.
"Y/N. Please, have a seat." Of course, Thorin doesn't miss that you were surprised and he smiles lovingly at you.
During the cozy dinner, you will laugh together, talk, and share many intimate things from your life. Thorin keeps caressing your hands, clearly seeking your closeness and also your touch. Now was the right time. "Y/N?" He takes hold of your hands, crossing his fingers with yours. "Amrâlime, you are my one." His eyes look at you full of longing, full of hope to be able to hold you in his strong arms...

Dwalin
It is unusual for Dwalin, but in fact, he asks you to bake with him. Of course, this is an excuse to have you all for himself. You are constantly surrounded by the other dwarves and for Dwalin this is more than annoying. The kitchen seems to be the only place of refuge - he thought.
But Dwalin seems to have forgotten that dwarves like to eat and while he is baking with you, Bofur, Nori and Ori come into the kitchen every now and then - as well as the rest of Company. Dwalin is desperate. What should he do so that you and he can be undisturbed?
Then Dwalin comes up with an idea. He will take you on a little trip. He prepares everything. A campfire, enough food to roast on the fire, and of course blankets. In case it should get too cold. Dwalin will always take care of your well-being.
You enjoy this trip and Dwalin knew that now was the right time to confess his feelings.
But unfortunately, nature did not want to play along. It became windy and it began to snow. But the falling snow slowly but surely became a storm. Dwalin cursed softly to himself. Why is this happening?
You two had no choice but to return to Erebor. Dwalin is very upset about the circumstances since he wanted to spend a nice day with you.
But we know that Dwalin is stubborn, don't we? So he won't give up so easily. After taking you back to Erebor and to your room, he makes you a warm tea. "I'm sorry." Dwalin throws wood into the chimney, lights the fire. "I wanted to spend some time with ye. Without the others."
He wraps you in a cozy blanket to warm you up. The storm had been strong and it was damn cold. "I don't want ye to catch a cold."
Dwalin was slowly but surely becoming impatient. When he looks at you, he would love to pull you into his strong arms and kiss you. He was about to just do it, to finally confess his feelings to you.
"Y/N, I..." Dwalin kneels in front of you, takes your hands, and looks up at you. He looks at you with love and affection. "Listen, I'm just an old fool. But you make me feel alive."
He kisses your hands, looks up at you, and hopes with all his heart that you understand his words - and that you, of course, return his feelings. "Amrâlime, this old fool loves you. From the bottom of his heart." And you know that the love of a dwarf resists eternally.

after popular demand, I bring you part two of
50 Durin House Rules And Other Declarations:
(Everyone lives AU)
51. Stop stealing Thorin’s beads and claim Dis has hid them.
52. Don’t sell Mithril shirts for own profit.
53. Dwalin is not allowed in the training room for longer than six hours a day. He needs rest too.
54. Don’t help Dwalin sneak into the training room. Even if he claims to cover for your next prank.
55. The limit for bathing is two hours. Staying in the tub for full days in no longer allowed. You can’t outrun your problems all day, Thorin.
56. Don’t let Fili sew anything.
57. Bow practice is no longer allowed inside the mountain.
58. DO NOT OFFER FILI AND KILI NERF GUNS
59. No more sentimental gifts for Dis. She doesn’t know how to behave for the next weeks.
60. Playing Y.M.C.A at a royal ball is not allowed.
61. Neither is playing Barbie Girl.
62. Stop arguing with Dis. You’re gonna ruin everybody’s day, because she’s gonna take her anger out on everybody else in the mountain, not just you!
63. For the love of Mahal, stop making those fuckboy faces to every important person that comes for royal meetings. This is not the impression we want to give off to visitors.
64. Eat bananas like a normal person would do.
65. No more snacks past 8 am.
66. Don’t let Fili and Kili watch horror movies alone.
67. Don’t leave Kili alone after horror movies. Ever.
68. Thorin, medical issues must be tended to. Whether you deem it necessary or not. Stop using the “it’s my stab wound” card. It’s not cool, it’s worrisome.
69. Taping a giant picture of Freddie Mercury on the throne is not appreciated.
70. Neither is ordering someone to make a portrait of him and hanging it in the hall of kings.
71. Stop dressing up in those inflatable dinosaur suits.
72. Don’t hand Dis a weapon. No matter the circumstances.
73. Fili is not allowed in the forges without supervision.
74. Kili is not qualified as supervision.
75. STOP.BRINGING.WOLVES.HOME.
76. Replacing Thorin’s wardrobe with bright green dresses is no longer a fun joke.
77. Wearing only a bathrobe is inappropriate and not a ‘fashion statement’.
78. Stop re-acting the Mustafar scene from Revenge of the Sith in the treasure room.
79. Claiming you need to because the lightsabers were 300 gold pieces each is not our problem. It’s yours.
80. Stop trying the hang the earlier mentioned Freddie Mercury portrait in the meeting hall. It is not a better alternative than the hall of kings.
81. DO NOT PROCEED TO HANG THE PORTRAIT BACK IN THE HALL OF KINGS AFTER THIS HAS BEEN SAID.
82. Both of them are not agreeable spots to hang the portrait.
83. Balin is not your servant. Don’t usher him to get you cookies when you’re too lazy to get out of bed.
84. Don’t use slang on Dis.
85. “What do you think you’re doing” is a theoretical question. We don’t actually want to know what you think you’re doing.
86. Using morse code to communicate with each other during dinner is no longer appreciated.
87. Don’t ‘vibe-check’ Thorin.
88. Minecraft is not something you can major in and is not considered a good future plan.
89. During scrabble night, we use normal words. Not words like ‘himbo’ or ‘fergalicious’.
90. ‘Bring back the Mercury portrait’ is not a valid petition.
91. When saying ‘healthy coping mechanisms’, we meant something like writing. Not screaming.
92. Do not touch Kili’s Jim Carrey dvd collection.
93. Don’t ever let Thorin watch American Horror Story alone.
94. Stop playing Christmas songs mid-summer.
95. Redecorating the throne room without approval of Thorin is not a considerable hobby.
96. “I don’t like sand” is not a normal way to start a conversation.
97. Dis needs at least 20 hours for herself a day (sleep included)
98. If you need more time with Dis, payment is two gold pieces per minute.
99. We already created a room dedicated to the Mercury portrait. Stop trying to hang up it elsewhere or it will be destroyed.
100. The portrait will not be destroyed as the thought of it makes Kili cry.
